Architecture modelling guidance

Modelling is an important tool for architects. There is a range of modelling approaches designed to support various stakeholders and business needs.

Types of architecture modelling include enterprise, business, solution and data architecture modelling.

Architecture modelling principles

This guidance starts with a set of principles endorsed by the Government Enterprise Architecture Group (GEAG).

Principle 1: Model with a purpose

Principle 2: Modelling just enough (and no more)

Principle 3: An enterprise architecture model is not a technical CMDB

Principle 4: Avoid customisation

Architecture modelling community of interest

In 2013 a community of practice known as the Government Modelling Capability Forum was established, supported by the GEAG. This was discontinued in 2017 due to different priorities.

If you are interested in being part of a similar group, please contact Government Enterprise Architecture at GEA@dia.govt.nz.
